Friday Cello Video: Sissoko and Segal

I heard an interview featuring these two musicians on KEXP a couple of months ago and I was captivated by the story of their collaboration. Ballake Sissoko, plays the traditional kora, a lute-harp from Mali and Vincent Segal, is a cellist from France. A desire to find a way to unite the two instruments and play together started a friendship. The sound they’ve created honors the history of both instruments while carving out a new space that feels timeless.

This first first clip was shot at the Rhino Jazz Festival in Lyon, France. It’s as lovely to watch as to listen to:
